An epic journey in the heart of the Himalayas, Western Arunachal Pradesh
Duration: 7 Nights 8 Days
Day 1 – Arrive in Guwahati and travel 3 hours to Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park – a relatively lesser-known protected area on the North bank of Brahmaputra river. Overnight at Prasanti Lodge.
Day 2 – Early morning safari in Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park(usually, the park opens for tourism from 1 Nov, sometime earlier too) and then travel to Bomdilla via Kalaktang, Shergaon following the newly-built Trans Himalayan Road. Overnight at Homestay.
Day 3 - Tawang with stops at Jaswantgarh War Memorial, Sella Pass(second highest motorable pass in the world) and Sella lake, Nuranang falls. Overnight at Homestay, Tawang.
Day 4 - Twang local sightseeing tour including Tawang monastery, HH 6th Dalai Lama's ancestral home, ancient Iron hanging bridge of Chudzong. Overnight at Tawang Homestay.
Day 5 - Excursion to Madhuri Lake and Bumla pass on India-China border(early morning to late evening - a full day excursion). Overnight at Tawang Homestay.
Day 6 – Travel to Dirang. Afternoon Kalachakra monastery. Overnight at Hotel, Dirang.
Day 7 – Morning visit to Dirang Jong fortified and ancient Monpa village. Take an walking tour of the village to get a feel of their traditional cultures and architectural heritage. You may also wish to visit the local monastery to visit the local deity worshipped by the villagers. Monpas are originally from Tibet and have settled in this remote Himalayas for centuries. They are typical mountain dwellers and depend largely on pastoral agriculture and herding pack animals or sheep! After late breakfast or early lunch, travel to Nameri Tiger Reserve in Assam. Overnight at Eco Camp. Nameri is a home to myriad wildlife and birds including the endangered White-winged Wood Duck, Ibisbill, Bengal Tiger , Leopard, Wild Dog, Asian Elephants, Golden Mahseer. If your time permits, you may wish to go for a bird watching or river bank walk.
Day 8 - Early morning jungle walk. Breakfast and transfer to Guwahati and fly out.
